The Lostprophets have been around since 1997 but until this year, they had never played on the stages at the Warped Tour (RELATED STORIES: Vans Warped Tour Makes A Stop At Merriweather). And, according to bassist Stuart Richardson, despite the bands fame and success it has still taken some time to get used to being the new kids on the Warped block.
“The first couple of shows were a bit of a shock,” said Richardson. “Trying to get used to it all. All of these bands have been here before, and we’re the new kids on the block.”
But after 10 shows on the tour, the band seems to have found their footing amongst the masses of bands. “We’ve been a band and around long enough, haha” adding that the band has gotten more and more comfortable each day, joking that “now we’re swinging our [junk] a bit more, you know?”
At Warped Tour, the set times and stages are switched up every day so bands don’t generally know where or when they play until
they wake up. On Tuesday at the Merriweather Post Pavilion the band took the stage at the Kia Rio Stage, the amphitheater’s main stage, at 12:35pm, something that can be tough for the bands from time to time.
“We got a call at 9am this morning waking us up and letting us know we’re on at 12pm.” They’ve also been sticking to a similar setlist for each performance. “It’s hard to know what to pick, because you don’t know what kind of crowd you will have day-to-day. We just try to stick to the basics – the sing-alongs and the jams.”
But, Richardson said, “We’ve been having a blast. We haven’t been to America in six years,” adding that, despite being afraid of playing to only a few people a day, “the crowds have been filling up. People know who we are and sing along. It rules.”
And while the Warped Tour experience has been an overwhelmingly fun and positive one, there are certain hardships that bands have to endure. “The worst thing is trying to take a [dump]. But that’s what everybody’s got to do. There are no rock stars on Warped Tour!”
