The Shaolin Jazz Project has given birth to a mix album, Shaolin Jazz: The 37th Chamber, featuring the likes of Wu-Tang’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah and Killarmy with jazz’s Grover Washington and Mulatu Astatke.
This past year, the duo has delivered college lectures and panel discussions about the parallels and similarities of jazz and hip-hop and have been a part of several exhibits along the East Coast celebrating the arts. Earlier this summer DJ 2-Tone Jones headlined two live performance of the 37th Chamber with Sound of the City at Blues Alley. Watch the video to get acquainted with the minds behind the project.
If you want to catch another kind of collaboration between the minds behind Shaolin Jazz, catch them Aug. 16 for a Happy Hour of Doom at 1920 DC 5-8 p.m. DJ 2-Tone will be spinning music from hip-hop artist MF Doom.
