While most of their friends are dragging through their sophomore year in college, Wiki, Hak, Sporting Life, and Ramon—the foursome that make up Ratking— is performing all over the world in front of thousands of people. On Saturday night, they stopped in at DC9.
The Odd Future-esque New York emcees hit the stage to give D.C. a taste of the rock rap blend featured on their six track EP, Wiki93, which released last year.
Laced with hard hitting club beats mixed with the traditional thump of reggae and the snarl of an electric guitar, Ratking’s sound is unpredictable, yet… true hip-hop.
Ratking’s creative genius is what makes them a standout group. They don’t have all the elements that would make them superstars but they’re well on their way. The creativity behind their grimy, grungy, yet introspective sound makes the music relatable and accessible.
Last year they told XXL they’re going to change the game by, “not changing the game, but then changing the game, and changing it back.”
We’ll see, but for now if you’re looking for new music, check them out!
