Two days. Two venues. Fifteen bands. And some of the fiercest female shredders to hit the music scene.
That’s right, it’s time. Shred Fest is coming. And this year, it’s rockin’ D.C.
Portland, OR–based She Shreds magazine is bringing its annual music festival, Shred Fest, to the nation’s capitol. Shred Fest is the world’s only print magazine dedicated to female guitarists and bassists. And staying true to its mission and its roots, all the bands performing at the festival feature a female shredder.
But don’t think that Shred Fest is a women-only event. This DIY music festival is for all musicians and all the fans. Originating as a one-day music fundraiser to kickstart She Shreds magazine, founder Fabi Reyna envisioned the festival as a way to empower people regardless of their gender or skills, serving to provide artists with a stage to help get their message and music to a broader community.
And it works. Fabi has discovered that even after Shred Fest has finished and packed up for another year, the DIY music spirit lives on, with local musicians coming together to build on the festival and encourage new musicians to break out and play.
The first year, which took place in Portland OR, was a rousing success. Year two saw Shred Fest roll into Austin, TX. Now in its third year, the music showcase is doing D.C., expanding to two days and paying homage to the City’s historic music scene.
More than a dozen bands from all around the country will be performing at Shred Fest, from Potty Mouth (Northhampton, MA) to Mirror Travel (Austin, TX) to Shells (Ann Arbor). Ex Hex, Mary Timony ‘s (Helium and Wild Flag), newest project will be making its public debut.
