Katy Perry brought her “Prismatic” tour to the District for two nights this week with special guests Ferras and Capital Cities.
Being an opening act in a giant arena is never easy, but Ferras, despite playing to a smaller crowd, did an admirable job. In a 30-minute set, the singer mixed up-tempo numbers with a few ballads. While obviously not well known to the crowd, his impressive voice and catchy songs provided a joyous mood to start the night.
Next up was Capital Cities, whose dance-y songs and crowd participation served as a great lead-up to the night’s main attraction. In addition to a number of their more popular songs like “Safe and Sound,” “I Sold My Bed but Not My Stereo,” and “One Minute More,” they also busted out a cover of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” changing the song up to give it a jazzy, club vibe. Although most of the crowd did not appear to be born for another 40 years or so after the song’s release, the audience still sang along to every word.
